Usecase 3 - Surgery

Description

Thomas Müller, a 40-year-old German tourist from Tübingen, was sandboarding in the Atacama Desert on March 15, 2024. While attempting a steep dune, he suddenly experienced intense lower back pain, numbness in his legs, and difficulty moving. Thomas, who had been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (spinal stiffening) in October 2020, is taken to Hospital del Cobre Dr. Salvador Allende in Calama, Chile. The medical team needs to understand his health status and pre-existing conditions. Due to the severity of his symptoms and the risk of spinal cord compression, Thomas requires surgery as minimally invasive treatments are deemed insufficient. Using the FHIR IPS specification, the medical team retrieves and displays Thomas' health record, including his history of past illnesses, previous surgeries, and procedures
